WHAT'S IN YOUR GLASS?

Craigellachie 13 Year Old

Not many 13 year old whiskies are readily available, but apparently, that is the perfect age for this expression from Craigellachie that you were all enjoying last month.

Although the initial aromas on the nose are described as funky, pungent, and strong, the overall palate is much more balanced. With notes of malt and barley mixed with summer fruits and jams, this single malt scotch sounds like an excellent summer porch sipper.

Dad’s Hat Bottled in Bond Straight Rye

Maybe a bit heavy-handed, but for Father’s Day I like to drink something that’s appropriate for the celebration. To that end, nothing is more appropriate than a dram of Dad’s Hat.

Named after the memory of the distiller’s father always choosing a hat to fit the day’s occasion perfectly, they set out to recreate a dormant whiskey style in the Pennsylvania Rye by choosing the perfect blend of 5 barrels of their classic rye and aging them 5 years.

While the bog standard rye they offer leaves a little to be desired, the BIB edition is everything a rye should be. Vanilla, apples, and oak, with a long warming finish, complement the classic spicy rye profile.

With its elegant harmony of honeyed fruit, delicate spice, and subtle oak, it’s like giving Dad a taste of Japanese craftsmanship.
