Welcome to the birthday edition of Abov the Noise! One year ago this month we launched our first newsletter. To celebrate, we’re giving away rare bourbon, taking (metaphorical) a trip to the Faroe Islands, and celebrating a meme-come-true.

Scotch whisky is famous the world over for many of its climate-specific characteristics. Peat smoke, sea salt, and long aging are all trademarks of a good scotch whisky. The Faroe Islands are betting those same characteristics will turn these tiny islands into a whisky destination.
D&D WHISKEY? JUST ROLL WITH IT

In a new slant on the celebrity spirits game, Matthew Lillard of Omnipotent Shaggy Meme Scooby Doo fame has launched the first of 16 bottles in a series of D&D collectibles which will pay homage to the D&D world’s most well-known characters and classes. Interestingly you’ll only be able to get these bottles through online resellers, a growing part of the whiskey distribution trends (see the next article!).

Since the pandemic the world has gone online for more and more of the day-to-day tasks that used to be done in-person. Clothing? Ship it. Groceries? Deliver it. McDonalds fries? Bring them do my door! Why should whiskey be any different? Regulations have stifled explosive growth, but the industry is finding a way, growing at about 20% year-over-year. There’s almost certainly a retailer out there who will bring your favorite bottle to your door!

APPLE'S PRIVACY ISSUE
Apple has a really cool feature that blocks your email with a proxy email address. They say emails will still reach you, but based on the number of “bounces” we get, this is a lie. If you’ve used this feature and submitted a whiskey, we have no way of reaching you! Honestly, there’s like a 50/50 chance none of you see this.
